Prouty to be New MCEA President

Contested Elections for VP & Secretary


Teacher and two studentsWednesday 4/1 was the nominations deadline for the upcoming election to the MCEA Board of Directors. Current MCEA President, Bonnie Cullison, is term limited, creating a vacancy in MCEA’s top spot.

As of the nominations deadline, current MCEA Vice-President, Doug Prouty, was the sole candidate to file for the president position. In accord with MCEA’s By-Laws, he is therefore elected by acclamation. Prouty, a former English teacher at Walter Johnson HS, has served as MCEA’s Vice-President for the past four years.

There are very explicit guidelines to follow if your school is contemplating a change in the structure of the student day.  The process that follows is to “take place over the period of a calendar year.” Learn more

Article 16, Sec. E discusses “staff involvement in school decisions about scheduling.”  Schools may decide to “change the structure of the student day…” but can only be made after “a formal process is undertaken. Learn more
